Legendary Korn guitarist Brian “Head” Welch has quite a story to share, which he will do on Sunday at Clovis Hills Community Church.
On Saturday, the eyes of local sports fans will be glued to their television sets to watch Fresno State open its football season at defending national champion Michigan. Table Mountain Casino is tapping into Bulldog-mania by hosting former Fresno State and NFL quarterback David Carr.
In addition, the Pines Resort at Bass Lake has comedy, music, and fireworks, and Solitary Cellars has events all weekend.

Brian ‘Head’ Welch
The Bakersfield-raised Welch and his daughter, Jennea, were the subjects of a documentary back in 2018, “Loud Krazy Love.” It depicted his addictions and spiraling out of control until he dedicated his life to his faith in order to be a good father. The documentary received critical acclaim.
Since then, Welch and Jennea have been advocates for mental health and recovery. I witnessed a screening of their documentary in 2019 at the Visalia First Church. It was an insightful and emotional story. Everyone there was affected and moved by it, and their interaction with the attendees was heartwarming. Being a Korn fan, it was an exciting moment.

Fantasy Football Q&A with David Carr and Fresno State Watch Party
Carr will be featured at Table Mountain Casino’s Fantasy Football Q&A and Fresno State Watch Party.
Admission is free and there’ll be food and drinks specials and giveaways. Doors open at noon, and the fantasy Q&A runs from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Kickoff for the football game is 4:30 p.m.
During his senior year, Carr won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and the Sammy Baugh Trophy. He was the first overall pick in the 2002 NFL Draft by the expansion Houston Texans. He won a Super Bowl with the New York Giants in 2011. Carr is now a football analyst for the NFL Network.

Enjoy an evening of laughter at The Pines Resort, Bass Lake on Friday featuring the world-renowned, half-Persian comedian, K-Von. He’s known for his clean and versatile style. He has been showcased on “Dry Bar Comedy,” Netflix, NBC’s “Last Comic Standing,” and TED Talk. He’s featured in the movie, “Funny Thing About Love,” starring alongside Jon Heder (“Napoleon Dynamite”).

Solitary Cellars has events taking place all weekend that provide an opportunity to enjoy music and wine.
Friday’s act is Jeremy “Elvis” Pearce’s Tribute to the King. Food will be provided by The Wild Vine and Greek N More.
Country Rewind will perform on Saturday. It’s a free event. There’ll be wine tasting. Donnie Mustachio plays on Sunday.

Recap: R&B Night Out
Headliner Keyshia Cole and other acts treated a full house at Selland Arena to an off-the-chain performance last Saturday. The concert-goers were millennials and older hip-hop lovers enthralled by the soul and dancing classics that defined their party days and relationships.
Natalie began the night dancing and strutting sunglasses and belting out her defining hit, “Goin’ Crazy.” Rapper Paul Wall followed her displaying his grill and tattoos. He was moving about while throwing his arm into the air and getting the crowd going with “Sittin’ Sideways” and “Girl.”
Ginuwine added the sensuality and turned the heat up in the arena. Wearing all black and a leather jacket, he sang his staples like “Differences,” and “In Those Jeans.” It was “Pony” that got the crowd riled up as he walked through the arena passing by fans while simultaneously singing. He was a hit with ladies as he was throwing roses out into the crowd throughout his set.
Chingy brought the party and was high energy as he ran around the stage. He displayed swag and got the crowd movin’ and groovin’ with “Pullin’ Me Back,” “One Call Away,” and “Holidae Inn.” His big hit “Right Thurr” really fired up the audience.
Frankie J started the night with my personal favorite, the love jam “Obsession (No Es Amor).” He also played “Suga Suga,” “Don’t Wanna Try,” and his rendition of “More Than Words.” He really stood out because he had a full band backing him and he played the keyboard as he sang with so much soul and passion that he set off a romantic aura in the venue.
Everyone was excited to see Keyshia Cole. She strutted around the stage with a combination of attitude and grace. Her voice is so strong that that she doesn’t need a microphone to be heard. Cole challenged the crowd to see if they remembered her anthems and they responded with resounding cheers.
She sang her discography of classic soul and adult contemporary hits like “Let It Go,” “Heaven Sent,” and “I Remember.” She concluded the evening with “Love,” which was a fitting end as the Valley showed these artists love and they gave it right back. Cole proved why she’s considered the “Princess of Hip-Hop Soul.”
